Poss technology advantages:

 

Polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane, POS for short, general formula  (RSiO3/2)n, wherein R is the group connected by eight top angle Si atoms.

Poss is an inorganic core composed of Si-O alternately connected silica skeleton, whose shape is like a cage, so it is named cage polysesquioxane.

Its three-dimensional size is between 1-3nm, in which the distance between Si atoms is 0.5nm, and the distance between R groups is 1.5nm.

The application of POSS in polymer mainly depends on R-group, which can be reactive group, such as alkenyl group, epoxy group, amino group, etc. it can graft or polymerize with polymer through reactive R-group, so as to produce chemical bond between polymer, introduce poss group, realize uniform dispersion on molecular layer and improve polymer performance.

 

When the R group is an inert group, such as alkyl, alkylene, aryl, etc., the compatibility between poss nanostructures and polymers can be adjusted.

POSS / polymer nanocomposite is a kind of high-performance organic-inorganic hybrid material developed recently. With poss as the inorganic component, inorganic phase and organic phase are combined by strong chemical bond, so there is no problem of agglomeration of inorganic particles and weak binding force of two-phase interface, so it is easy to composite with polymer matrix through copolymerization, grafting or blending.

(5) Poss can be used as a sealing group or crosslinking curing center to obtain modified polymers that meet different needs.

 

The future directions of Octavinyloctasilasesquioxane research could involve its use in the synthesis of highly luminescent PNC-polymer composites with a superhydrophobic micro/nano structured surface.
